Dalimss Sunbeam runs two Cambridge campuses in Varanasi: Sigra, for Playgroup to Class VIII, and Dalimss Sunbeam Global School, Ramkatora, for Playgroup to Class X. This page explains, in plain words, what that means for your child and how to choose between them.

What a Cambridge curriculum means for a parent

Cambridge is an international curriculum from Cambridge University Press & Assessment. It is used by schools in many countries, and it is built around English, enquiry and problem solving rather than learning answers by heart.

In practice, this is what you tend to notice as a parent:

  • More questions, fewer copied answers. Children are asked to explain how they got an answer, not just to write it down.
  • Projects and hands-on work. A topic is often explored through a small project, an experiment or a presentation.
  • A lot of English. Reading, speaking and writing in English run through every subject, which helps children who will later study or work in English.
  • Stages, not just classes. Cambridge describes its programme in stages: Primary for roughly ages 5 to 11, Lower Secondary for about 11 to 14, and Upper Secondary (IGCSE) for about 14 to 16. In Indian terms, IGCSE lines up with Classes IX and X.

Cambridge is not better than CBSE for every child, and CBSE is not better than Cambridge. CBSE is the national board and the base for JEE and NEET. Cambridge suits children who learn by asking and doing. In the early years, the teacher in the room matters more than the name of the board. Our guide to choosing a school in Varanasi covers the other questions worth asking.

Who it suits: families living in and around Sigra, Mahmoorganj and the middle of the city who want a Cambridge start close to home for the early and middle years. If you live nearby, read our Sigra area guide for directions and landmarks.

Ramkatora: Cambridge from Playgroup to Class X

Dalimss Sunbeam Global School, Ramkatora is on Ramkatora Road, opposite Ram Janaki Kund, in Chetganj. It follows the Cambridge curriculum from Playgroup to Class X and has Cambridge affiliation up to Class X.

Who it suits: families in Ramkatora, Chetganj and nearby, and parents who want their child to stay with Cambridge through Class IX and Class X. If you searched for an IGCSE school in Varanasi, this is the Dalimss Sunbeam campus to ask about. See the Ramkatora area guide for how to get there.

Principal: Mr. Dipendra Verma.

For Class XI and XII, or if you prefer CBSE

Our Cambridge campuses stop at Class VIII (Sigra) and Class X (Ramkatora). For the senior classes, or for families who want CBSE from the start, look at Rohania, our CBSE school on G.T. Road with Playgroup to Class XII and boarding, with separate hostels for boys and girls (see Boarding at Rohania). Outside Varanasi, NTPC Tanda is also a CBSE school. Ask us on your visit how a move between campuses works for your child.

Questions

Asked often.

Which Dalimss Sunbeam schools in Varanasi follow the Cambridge curriculum?

Two campuses: Dalimss Sunbeam Sigra, behind Sampoornanand Stadium, from Playgroup to Class VIII, and Dalimss Sunbeam Global School, Ramkatora, on Ramkatora Road in Chetganj, from Playgroup to Class X.

What is the difference between Cambridge and CBSE?

CBSE is India's national board, with board exams in Class X and Class XII, and its NCERT syllabus is the base for JEE and NEET. Cambridge is an international curriculum from Cambridge University Press & Assessment, built around English, enquiry and problem solving. In the early years the teacher matters more than the board. From Class IX onwards, think about the exams your child is likely to take.

What is IGCSE?

IGCSE is the Cambridge qualification for the upper secondary years, usually taken around age 16, which in Indian terms is the end of Class X. At Dalimss Sunbeam, Ramkatora is the Cambridge campus that runs to Class X, so it is the campus to ask about Cambridge in Classes IX and X.

Is there a Cambridge school in Sigra, Varanasi?

Yes. Dalimss Sunbeam Sigra follows the Cambridge curriculum from Playgroup to Class VIII. It is at 32/52-B, Nagar Nigam Road, behind Sampoornanand Stadium, Sigra. You can call the campus on +91 63079 30834.

What can my child do after Class VIII at Sigra or Class X at Ramkatora?

Ask us on your visit about the route that fits your child. Within Dalimss Sunbeam, Ramkatora continues Cambridge to Class X, and Rohania is our CBSE school up to Class XII, as a day school or with boarding. NTPC Tanda is also a CBSE school.

How do I apply to a Cambridge campus for 2027-28?

Book a visit or send an enquiry on our Admissions page, or go straight to the Sigra or Ramkatora campus page. The admissions desk calls you back to fix a day.
